<div><br>I hope this letter finds you well as you embark on your new role leading our country. As Christians, we are committed to praying for our leaders, including yourself and your family, as you undertake the responsibilities of your office. </div>
<div><br>I am writing to introduce you to an organisation that plays a crucial role in tackling poverty across the UK: Christians Against Poverty (CAP). CAP is a national charity dedicated to transforming lives, supporting thriving churches, and working towards an end to poverty in the UK. Through a network of services provided alongside local churches, CAP works to address both the immediate challenges of problem debt and the broader issues that contribute to poverty.</div>
<div><br>CAP Debt Help offers holistic support to families and individuals facing financial difficulties, providing free face-to-face services that address not only the financial aspects but also the emotional impact of debt. Additionally, CAP runs free community groups such as job clubs, life skills groups, and money management courses, all designed to support individuals and families to build sustainable futures.</div>
<div><br>Poverty remains a pressing issue in the UK, affecting millions of individuals and families. Recent years have seen stagnant wage growth, rising living costs, and economic challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people are trapped in cycles of debt and financial instability, struggling to make ends meet despite working tirelessly to support themselves and their families. Politicians have told us that work is the best route out of poverty, but have failed to make that a reality, while stripping the value of social security such that the holes in the safety net are letting hundreds of thousands fall through. Charities like CAP are now the safety net to society - volunteers, charity workers and church members the overstretched front line.</div>
<div><br>As you begin your tenure as Prime Minister, I urge you to prioritise the issue of poverty in the UK. The work of CAP demonstrates the significant impact that targeted support and community empowerment can have in transforming lives - and the issues they raise in their policy & advocacy work highlight the need for political action in addressing systemic challenges. <strong>I respectfully request that you make poverty a high priority on your agenda for change - even in your first 100 days as Prime Minister, the course you set for our country could make a difference to a generation or more of people trapped in poverty. All of your five missions will be harder to deliver without addressing poverty - so please be bold and courageous.</strong></div>
